7 Best Oscillating Multi-Tools Reviewed (November 2020 Relevant)

As you probably gathered from the name, oscillating multi-tools are incredibly handy and versatile tools, able to perform a multitude of tasks.
Cutting, grinding, sawing, polishing, you name it, you can do it with an oscillating multi-tool as long as you have the right attachment connected.
The design of this tool allows the attachments to mounted in any orientation you please so they are perfect for getting in to work in areas that you just can’t with other tools.
Also, because oscillating tools don’t rotate in the same way as other power tools, they afford the user with more control allowing very precise work to be completed with less chance of the tool ‘kicking’.

  • Quick change attachments
  • Variable speed

The versatility of oscillating multi-tools means that they are very popular devices and so there are hundreds of different brands trying to cash in on that popularity. So which ones are the best out there?
Here is a short list of the top oscillating multi-tools for sale in the UK at the present time.

We start our best oscillating multi-tool reviews with the WORX F50 Sonicrafter.
This is the most powerful in the Sonicrafter range, being powered by a substantial 400 watt electric motor that gives you an oscillation speed of between 11,000 and 20,000 per minute.
It comes with 40 accessories, most of them are sanding sheets, but there is also an 80mm semi-circle saw blade and a 35mm standard end cut blade.
The Sonicrafter has been fitted with LED headlights to illuminate dark working spaces such as tight corners or the undersides of surfaces.

Getting into the places isn’t back breaking either as the weight of this tool is only 1.5 kilograms.
for me, the best things about this particular model are the universal fit system which allows you to use accessories from almost any brand and model, and also the hyperlock system which clamps down to hold your accessories in place with over a ton of force. This not only keeps your blades and sanding sheets secure but also means that changing from one accessory to the other is fast and tool free.
There are lots of other cool features like the blade moving five times faster than average for this time of tool, and a 5 degree oscillation angle to improve cutting performance.
The WORX F50 comes with its own hard carry case, useful for transportation and storage.

  • Powerful 400 watt motor will tackle all jobs
  • Oscillation speed of 11,000 – 20,000 per minute
  • Can be used with accessories from almost any brand and model
  • Hyperlock clamping system keeps attachments secure and gives you fast and tool free changes
  • LED headlights for working in dark areas
  • 5 degree oscillation and fast moving blade give excellent cutting precision

Costing less than half of the WORX F50 Sonicrafter, this model from VonHaus is an excellent choice for those who are on a tighter budget or don’t want to spend too much on something they won’t use that often.
Its 280W motor isn’t as powerful as the Sonicrafter but it can still reach high oscillation speeds of 10,000-21,000 oscillations per minute and this can be altered using the controls on the tool.
Included with this multi-tool are 9 mulitple grade sheet pads, a universal e-cut blade, half-moon diamond tipped blade for grinding, a stainless steel scraper, a dust extractor port, and a hard carry case.
The power cord of this model isn’t particularly long at 180cm, so you might need an extension lead to give you more range, but it should be ample for working in the shed or around the house.
Vibration control is another nice feature of this tool and ensures that you get a smooth operation and movement across surfaces.
Like the WORX model, the VonHaus weighs under 1.5 kilograms and is easy to maneuver wherever you need it to be and also has LED lights to brighten up the working area.
Accessories are changed using an allen key and it’s a straightforward enough process that shouldn’t cause anyone too much bother.

  • Excellent value for money
  • High oscillating speeds up to 21,000 per minute
  • Good selection of accessories and hard carry case
  • Handy LED work lights
  • Vibration control
  • Speed variation controls

3. DeWalt DCS355N-XJ 18V Li-Ion Cordless Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool

If freedom of movement around the workplace is something that you’re after, you’d probably be better off spending a bit more on a cordless oscillating multi-tool like this top notch one from DeWalt.
Despite its compact, mobile nature, this tool still has another power to tackle any jobs you have in mind. It has been fitted with a 300 watt brushless motor with oscillating speeds between 10,000 and 20,000 per minute. You can also be sure of durability of the motor as brushless devices are known to offer more longevity than standard ones.
This Dewalt oscillating multi-tool runs off an 18V lithium ion battery that is not included in the price and needs to be purchased separately, or if you have other Dewalt tools from the XR range you can use the same battery.
LED work lights, variable speed controls, and quick tool free attachment changes are all things this tool has in common with other top products, and it also has a dual grip position giving you a lot of control over it, perfect for doing that precision work.
Also included is a quick fit dust extraction system that is definitely a bonus when using these types of tools. This extractor is compatible with DeWalts airlock system for added cleaning efficiency.
The accessories included are- 1 x 31 x 43mm Wood with Nails Blade. 1 x 31 x 43mm, Fast Cut Wood Blade, 1 x Sanding Pad 25 Sheets Assorted Sandpaper, and 1 x Universal Blade Adaptor.

  • Cordless tool that gives you complete freedom of movement
  • 300W brushless motor is both powerful and long lasting
  • Tool free attachment changes
  • LED work lights
  • Dust extractor system
  • Dual grips give you excellent control

This is another low cost, budget multi-tool, perfect for doing odd DIY jobs around the house.
Even though this is the cheapest model on our list, it can still offer the buyer a decent amount of versatility and reliability. Included with the main tool are 30 sanding discs, a flexible scraper blade, two carbon steel cutting blades, a semi-circular cutting blade, and a half-moon diamond tipped grinding disc. These attachments can all be swapped easily enough by using the included allen hex key.
The 220W motor has 6 speed control and can produce oscillating speeds up to 20,000 per minute which is more than enough for most home improvement jobs.
This multi-tool’s body is made out of good quality plastic and the TPE soft grip handle has been designed to reduce the effects of vibration to the hands.
At 2 metres long, the power cord is about average length for these tools, but you might want to invest in an extension lead anyway.

  • Very low price but good quality
  • 220 watt motor can produce 20,000 oscillations per minute
  • 6 speed controls
  • TPE soft grip for vibration reduction
  • Good set of attachments to get started
  • 2 metre power cord

Weighing just over a kilogram and being powered by an 18V lithium ion battery, this cordless multi-tool from trusted brand Ryobi has been designed with mobility in mind.
It comes with a plunge cut blade, flush cut blade, sanding pad with 5 sanding sheets, a hex key for changing them, and also a universal adaptor that allows you to use attachments from other brands.
This muti-tool has an ergonomically shaped handle that fits in the hand naturally and this, combined with the speed control and light weighted nature of the tool, makes you feel in complete control at all times.
There is the ‘almost standard these days’ yet still very helpful LED lights to illuminate dark spaces like tight corners.
This Ryobi oscillating multi-tool measures 33cm x 20cm x 20cm and is made from high grade plastic that feels robust and not likely to give you any problems anytime soon.
The battery and charger are not included in the base price but can be bought along with the tool as part of a pack. Alternatively you can use the battery from any other Ryobi product in the same range.

  • Ergonomically shaped handle for increased comfort
  • Very lightweight weighing just over a kilogram

Coming with two different size motors 220W or 300W and both priced very reasonably, it’s no surprise that this oscillating multi-tool from the ‘Hi-Spec’ brand is selling more than its fair share of units and getting a lot of praise from customers.
The 300W model that we are reviewing here is capable of reaching 23,000 oscillations per minute and has a 3.2 degrees oscillation angle. The variable speed controls allow you to choose from 7 different settings.
This model comes with a large array of accessories- 38 to be exact, and changing from one to the other is made easy thanks to the quick release lever system that negates the need for using a hex key. There is also a universal fit system allowing you to use attachments from any brand.
Vibration while operating the Hi-Spec tool has been reduced thanks to a dual moulded, rubber coated grip and it feels nice and comfortable in the hand.
Included in this set are a delta sanding pad, 24 sanding papers of various grit grades, buffing pad, epoxy sand rasp, grout remover, semicircular diamond blade tile cutter, semi-circular saw blade, E-scraper, 6 straight edge saw blades, and a dust extraction tube. Basically, everything you need to tackle pretty much all your DIY tasks.

Speaking of attachments, swapping them on this tool is tool free and uses a quick release system instead which is far easier and faster.
